Chen Yuan-hao (陳元皓) had his right leg amputated after developing bone cancer in 1st grade at elementary school. Growing up in a single-parent family, his mother reared him single-handedly and fostered in him a great passion for swimming. Chen Yuan-hao was fortunately blessed with an iron will and has been unwilling to accept defeat, conscientiously striving to overcome his physical barriers. He began learning to swim at eleven years old, and after just six short years, at the age of seventeen, he smashed the Taiwanese Para-Swimming Record, providing a stage for him to blossom and grow.
An optimistic individual, Chen Yuan-hao believes it is meaningless to continually fret over one’s losses because it doesn't change anything; better to positively accept what life throws at you and cherish what one has. In the future, Chen Yuan-hao is not fixed on the idea of becoming a professional athlete but hopes his own life experience can be an example to society, helping people to understand that no matter what difficulties we face in life, through hard work we can overcome anything. He said: “Disabilities can be overcome. Though I have lost a leg, I don’t feel any different to everybody else. Whatever you can do, I will do my best to do it too”.

母親灌溉希望 單腳游出不平凡
陳元皓在小學一年級時罹患骨癌，接受截肢手術截去右腿。單親家庭的他，由媽媽獨立扶養長大，並用心培養他學習游泳。努力不服輸的個性，讓他彌補了身體的殘缺。十一歲時開始學游泳，陳元皓只花了六年的時間，十七歲就成功打破全國身障仰式紀錄，找到屬於自己的舞台並綻放光彩。
陳元皓認為自己是個樂觀的人，就算不斷的想著失去了什麼，也無法改變事實，倒不如正面的接受，珍惜自己所有。未來，陳元皓雖然並不以成為職業游泳選手為目標，但他希望透過自己的人生經歷告訴這個社會，不管面對再多的挫折，只要肯努力，一定會有好的發展。他說：「身障沒什麼大不了的，我雖然少一隻腳，但是我覺得我就是跟正常人沒什麼兩樣，你們能做的，我也會盡量做到百分之百。」
