Rock ‘n’ roll temple fair

On October 22 of the lunar month each year, Taipei’s Monga Qingshan Temple holds a grand procession that traverses the streets and alleys of Wanhua District. Qingshan Temple is an important center of faith for devotees of the Monga(艋舺) faith, and the King of Qingshan Festival is commonly known as the Monga Grand Ceremony(艋舺大拜拜). Performances from a number of rock ‘n’ roll bands at this year’s festival infused this longstanding Taiwanese tradition with an innovative new element that attracted the participation of many young people to this wonderful event. Hopefully, in the future, further innovations will help create a vibrant fusion of traditional and modern culture, not only integrating the people of Taiwan but also those of differing race, color, and nationality into the beauty of Taiwanese popular culture.

每年農曆10月22日，台北市艋舺青山宮都會舉行盛大的遶境活動，踏遍萬華的大街小巷，青山宮是艋舺人非常重要的信仰重心，所以青山王繞境又俗稱艋舺大拜拜。今年的遶境特別加入了搖滾樂團的表演，讓台灣久傳的民間信仰融合新穎的元素，吸引年輕族群前來共襄盛舉。希望在未來，可以看到更多的文化創新，讓傳統文化和現代流行激盪出火花，不只是使台灣的民眾，也包括了不同種族、膚色、國家的人，都能融入台灣民俗的美。
