In order to carry heavy objects and transport things in the wilds, indigenous people living in the mountains developed an ingenious head strap. However, as tribal elders gradually pass away, traditional weaving methods for the head strap’s production are on the verge of being lost. In order to ensure that the knowledge of this traditional production method is kept alive for the next generation, Luanshan village in Taitung’s Yanping Township has set up a course in head-strap making. Witnessing young and old people from the tribe gather together during their free time in the evenings for group study is a truly wonderful sight.
