Teachers and students piece together sightseeing tour of Ruifang Old Street

Ruifang Train Station in New Taipei City is simply brimming with culture and history. From February until July 31, 2016, Jui-Fang Industrial High School geography teacher Lin Shu-yuan (林淑媛) led students to participate in the International Geography Olympiad (國際地理科奧林匹亞競賽), for which students provided free half-hour guided tours. Jui-Fang Industrial High School student Liao Yi-ying (廖怡瑩) said that the opportunity to give guided tours helped her overcome a fear of public speaking. Following visitor suggestions to provide a small information brochure and promotional materials, teachers and students immediately got together to discuss the proposal. In a very short time, they had produced handheld billboards, brochures, and small puzzles for visitors.

Lin Shu-yuan said she hopes that by participating in the International Geography Olympiad students will learn to proactively search out resources and create many other learning opportunities. Through understanding the rich cultural history of Ruifang and learning how to conduct guided tours, the students have helped publicize local places of historic interest and historical stories from the area.

新北市的瑞芳火車站，充滿古蹟人文的氣息，瑞芳高工地理科老師林淑媛，從2016年2月中開始到7月31日，帶領學生參加國際地理科奧林匹亞競賽，免費為遊客進行半小時左右的導覽解說，瑞芳高工學生廖怡瑩表示，此次導覽讓她在高中生涯有了大突破，讓自已有勇氣獨自面對陌生的大眾進行解說。遊客建議他們可以作一張小手冊和文宣品，後來師生就馬上動手討論、製作，將手持看板、手冊、小拼圖在短期內完成。

林淑媛說，希望學生參加這一次國際地理科奧林匹亞競賽，讓學生能自已主動找尋各種資源，創造更多成長空間。了解當地的人文歷史，進一步為遊客解說，宣傳瑞芳的古蹟與歷史故事。
