Physically disabled and searching for a job – toiling on the streets to fulfill a dream
Wheelchair-bound A-wei’s regular street pitch is located outside of Gongguan MRT Station’s Exit 2 in Taipei City just next to the entrance for Taiwan National University; A-wei sells products from the social enterprise ‘Do You A Flavor (人生百味)’, which is targeted at empowering minorities. Though A-wei hawks products that are rarely sold by other vendors on the streets, including chewing gum designed by Aaron Nieh(聶永真), organic dried fruit and oolong tea, his income is still anything but stable.
Over the years, A-wei has sold chewing gum in Wanhua, been engaged in fundraising, and worked in a call center, but his dream has always been to enter the entertainment business. He simply adores performing and actively participates in musical performances that promote equality. A-wei hopes that such performances can provide the public with a better understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with disabilities in society.
