Indian scops owl stopover provides life education opportunity for students

Liu Shou-zhi (劉守智), a teacher from Chiayi’s Bo'ai Elementary School, has been making a precious photo record of some new campus members since last September–Indian scops owls! In addition to an intensive Internet study of their endearing little friends by teachers and students, the school’s two natural science teachers Cai Xiu-qin (蔡秀琴) and Chen Wei-long(陳威龍) have taken exhaustive observational records and even made a nesting box, in which the Indian scops owls hatched out three cute little chicks. 

Liu Shou-zhi has encouraged his students to appreciate the value of life and learn to have care and respect for the living environment. He said that through watching the gentle and cautious actions of teachers towards these furry friends, the children have been provided with some valuable life education, learning the importance of respect for life.

領角鴞校園竹林落腳 生命教育盼從小扎根

嘉義市博愛國小老師劉守智，自去年九月以來，為校園裏的新成員—領角鴞，留下珍貴的照片紀錄。為了校園裡的嬌客，師生上網做足功課，除了觀察紀錄，兩位自然科任老師，蔡秀琴、陳威龍，還親手製作人工巢箱，讓時逢繁殖季節的領角鴞夫婦，順利地在巢箱內孵育了三隻可愛的小小領角鴞。

老師劉守智勉勵學生們重視生命的價值，學習關懷與尊重生命的存在與生活的環境，他說小朋友從過程中，看著老師們小心翼翼的行為，也會跟著被感染，知道要尊重生命，這是生命教育潛移默化的過程。
