Cellist Zhang Zheng-jie performs concert to nuns for their dedication over 50 years
A week before Mother’s Day, cellist Zhang Zheng-jie (張正傑) gave a special performance in honor of the Holy Cross Sisters. Zhang Zheng-jie said that although many foreign nuns are of advanced years, they remain steadfastly devoted to their work, caring for the people of Taiwan just like a mother. Seeing this spirit of love and caring, Zhang Zheng-jie wanted to offer the nuns a Mother's Day blessing through a special music concert.
Established 52 years ago, Guanshan Holy Cross Sisters Nursing Home (關山聖十字架療養院) is run by a group of nuns from a number of places including Switzerland and Austria. With the help of a team of indigenous nurses, the home cares for the chronically injured, the bedridden and those whose families are unable to care for them. The Guanshan performance opened up with local band Xiami (蝦米樂團), and was then followed by Zhang Zheng-jie and pianist Wang Nai-chia (王乃加). The duo started with the well-known piece The Swan (天鵝) and went on to perform many Taiwanese folk songs, allowing the nuns and other members of the audience to bask in the truly enchanting sounds of this very special concert.
