Yiren Elementary continues to provide help and couplets of good wishes for the elderly

Yiren Elementary School is located on the border of Minxiong Township, between Chiayi City and Zhuqi Township. The small rural school actively promotes cultural and educational activities in the community, and students learn the humanities through service. After witnessing the dejection of many elderly people living alone, in 2013 the school joined forces with Huashan Social Welfare Foundation (華山基金會) and began visiting the homes of elderly people in the community, helping students learn the importance of caring. Just before winter vacation this year, 32 upper-grade students visited 6 elderly grandmas living alone in Jinshi Village, where they helped with spring cleaning and writing traditional Spring Festival couplets with greetings for the coming year.

Although all the elderly people in the mountain village came out to watch a music performance given by Yiren Elementary School students, they were still outnumbered by the students on stage. Listening to nostalgic old songs performed on traditional Chinese musical instruments under the longan tree, the elderly grandmothers joyously clapped along with the melodies, humming the familiar old tunes.

義仁助老愛再續「寫下幸福」

嘉義市與竹崎、民雄鄉交界處有座純樸的義仁國小，積極推展社區文化教育活動，透過服務學習讓學生學習人文素養。因感於獨居長輩生活孤寂，民國102年起開始結合華山基金會走入社區獨居長者家中，讓學子們學習付出關懷。今年寒假前，由32位高年級學生到金獅村的6位獨居阿嬤家協助年前打掃，帶著長輩寫下新年平安幸福等字樣的春聯協助張貼。

義仁國小同學並將音樂會帶入深山，雖然整個聚落的長者都走出家門還是比台上的學生人數要少，但在龍眼樹下聽著懷舊老歌國樂演奏，讓阿嬤們高興的隨著旋律拍起雙手、哼著熟悉的歌謠。
