Yilan Your Shoot- Aquatic Plant Restoration
Yilan Your Shoot- Aquatic Plant Restoration
In a collaboration between PeoPo Citizen Journalism Platform and Luodong Community University (羅東社區大學), the final “Your Shoot” event of 2015 brought citizen journalists to Yilan’s Sanxing Township to investigate issues surrounding the restoration of aquatic plants. Luodong Community University’s Lanyang Eco Society (蘭陽山川生態社) has partnered up with Sanxing’s Wuyuan Spiritual Culture Park (悟元心靈文化園區), where teacher Qiu Jin-he (邱錦和) is leading 23 of his students in a project to restore 48 species of native aquatic plants over 4 years. It is hoped that the 660m² ecological pond inside the park can be transformed into an aquatic plant museum.
In addition to issues surrounding the regeneration of aquatic plants, Director of Luodong Community University, Wu Guo-wei (吳國維), was invited to discuss the problem of farmhouse construction in Yilan and the school’s Secretary-General, Chen Jun-yu (陳俊宇), engaged in a discussion with citizen journalists about energy issues. This final Your Shoot event attracted the participation of over 60 citizen journalists, who through their own unique perspectives, provided a diverse range of reports on all the day’s happenings.
