People generating power
Celebrated on March 28 of this year, Earth Hour (地球一小時) is a worldwide energy-saving movement launched in 2007 by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Aimed at raising awareness to the issue of global warming, the event encourages households and businesses to turn off their lights for one hour between 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the last Saturday of March.
Currently taking place in more than 7000 cities across 163 countries worldwide, over 100 million people come together on the same day each year to protect the Earth using “people power”. In response to the call for carbon reduction, this year the Society of Wilderness (荒野保護協會) organized “Use Your Power, Green Up”, an eco-carnival in which the public were invited to generate energy through pedaling exercise bicycles.
