PeoPo “Your Shoot” hits Budai – Recording the community and ecology
The first PeoPo Citizen Journalism Platform “Your Shoot” event of 2015 hit the streets of Xinceng Community in Budai Township, Chiayi County on Saturday the 21st of March. The area’s precious wetlands are an important habitat for the black-faced spoonbill, and by the beginning of the year 300 black-faced spoonbills had already been spotted in the area. Xinceng Community is also Taiwan’s only restoration base for the king crab (Limulus polyphemus), a true living fossil.
Over the past few years, community residents and local organizations have worked together to realize their vision of “supporting the black-faced spoonbill, and raising future generations of the king crab”. Xinceng Community is endeavoring to create fertile wetlands where people can live in harmony with nature. At this Your Shoot event, over 60 participating citizen journalists enjoyed a wonderful trip to Budai’s rich ecological habitat, where they filmed a diverse array of related local issues.
