Feelings that never wane
Sixty-eight year old teacher of rattan weaving Liu Ming-Zhi (劉明智) from Meishan Township in Chiayi County graduated from Anjing Primary School’s (安靖國小) first class of students. This year, after receiving the approval of the school’s principle and director, along with rattan weaving teacher Yang Ming-Zhong (楊明鐘), Liu Ming-Zhi returned to his childhood school to hold rattan weaving classes. Through providing these free classes at his old school they hope raise students’ interest in this traditional art.
Both close to seventy years old, the two old timers accompany the young students in watching films and practicing rattan weaving – a process which is packed full of fun. All interested parents and children are welcome to participate in the weekly classes that take place each Thursday at Anjing Primary School in Meishan Township, inviting people to reminisce on the meaningful days of yesteryear.
