March 8 Anti-nuclear rally series

On March 8, taking place simultaneously in Taipei, Greater Taichung, Greater Kaohsiung and Taitung, a nationwide anti-nuclear rally took to the streets, attracting anti-nuclear protestors from places all over the country. Protesters appealed for a nuclear-free country and to abolish the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant. Despite days of continuous rain in the Taipei area, protestors were in no way deterred from attending the demonstration, and a number of citizen journalists also participated to record the all the happenings in this massive anti-nuclear event.

Further afield in Taitung, close to a thousand people congregated for a massive demonstration in the plaza of Nanjing Road; the main demands were for the immediate removal of nuclear waste from Orchid Island and to oppose plans for a nuclear waste disposal site in Daren Township – Hualian City also mobilized three coaches to attend the Taitung rally. Protesters from the Kaohsiung area in the south, amassed in Aouzihdi Forest Park – demands included halting construction work on the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant, early decommissioning of power plants 1-3, and the implementation of green energy policies.

3月8日全台廢核大遊行，在北、中、南、東四地同時展開，全台各地反核人民同步走上街頭，提出終結核四、非核家園的訴求。當天台北天氣陰雨綿綿，但並沒有降低民眾參與的意願，多位公民記者也實地參與並記錄這一場廢核大遊行的狀況；而東部有近千人聚集在台東市南京路廣場共襄盛舉，主要訴求是：核廢料立即遷出蘭嶼，反對台東達仁鄉為核廢料候選場址。花蓮地區也動員三台遊覽車的人數來到台東響應。南部高雄地區從高雄凹仔底公園集結出發，遊行訴求為停建核四，核一二三廠要提前除役，並且落實綠色永續能源政策。
