Traffic congestion on Bolang Avenue – Cycle and pedestrian way imperative!
During Chinese New Year, a huge volume of vehicles congregated on Bolang Avenue in Chishang Township, Taitung County. Although the majority of cars parked on the same side of the road, the arrival of vehicles from the opposite direction caused immediate congestion. Police directing traffic at the intersection of Bolang Avenue and “Road to Heaven” (Wan-Hsin Road), the area that experienced the greatest flow of traffic, proved to be not particularly effective. There was a stark contrast between Bolang Avenue, where bulk of people and cars congregated, and the cycle way, which remained open and free from congestion.
Similarly, the immediate area around ‘Takeshi Kaneshiro Tree’ was packed with people, with both lanes of the road besieged with people and cars. The citizen journalist believes that to provide tourists with a first-class trip to the area, a public notice restricting the area to pedestrians and cyclists is absolutely necessary.
