The warmth of wheelchair dance
With the ultimate aim of transcending their physical barriers and realizing freedom in movement, a group of physically disabled dance lovers are willing to commit an incredible number of dance moves to memory. Song after song, shaking their upper bodies in unison with likeminded partners, the joy and passion on the faces of the dancers is unmistakable.
Teacher Hong Zhen-ming (洪蓁銘) from Bade City College, is an international ballroom dancing aficionado and teacher of wheelchair dance.
Sadly, at the tender age of just 18, Miss Hong was diagnosed with lupus. Over the many years of therapy it took to regain her health, however, she received the help of countless warmhearted people.
With hope that this group of physically disabled people can enjoy a normal recreational life, Miss Hong felt a calling to pass on the warmhearted goodwill she received in her time of need all those years ago.
She has not only taught free of charge for many years, she has also vigorously tried to accrue unwanted or old wheelchairs to provide trouble-free study of wheelchair dance for countless disabled people.
After seven long years, however, the life of the wheelchairs is understandably coming to the end, and Miss Hong is now in search of brand new wheelchairs to create an even better learning environment for her students.
