Artist Candy Bird supports anti-relocation cause

The striking murals of Candy Bird in support of local residents immediately become evident on entering Taipei's Huaguang Community (華光社區). In his outdoor creations, Candy Bird regularly incorporates existing elements he finds in the area into his work, creating a bridge between himself and the residents of the area.

Using a simple combination of only a few colors, yellow as a background and black to outline certain elements, his ‘graffiti’ style in fact appears more like a fresco or mural. Candy Bird’s style is a world apart from the American style of graffiti, which uses spray-paint and letters. His work, which not only appears in busy community settings, but also in the neglected corners of derelict ruins, often incorporates social issues, forcing people to reflect on a variety of social phenomena.

藝術家糖果鳥 作畫聲援反對強迫拆遷

走進台北市華光社區，牆壁上一大片顯眼的壁畫，是藝術家Candy Bird，聲援居民的作品。在戶外創作，Candy Bird時常把已經存在的物品視為畫中的一部分，也讓自己的畫和路過的民眾產生連結。Candy Bird的塗鴉其實是一種壁畫，他只簡單的使用幾種顏色，以黃色為底，黑色描邊。和街頭的美式塗鴉，用噴漆，以文字來做變化不同。Candy Bird的作品，常與社會議題結合，讓人反思社會上各種現象。作品不只在社運活動中出現，廢墟的一角或者是藝文空間也都可以看到。
