On 9th May, construction contractor for Greater Taichung MRT’s Green Line inappropriately ‘trimmed’ (cut them in half ) a number of devil trees from the sidewalk next to Exit 5 of Nanyuan Park (南苑公園) - adjacent to Wenxin and Wenxin South Road; on 12th April, the trees then had their roots trimmed and were relocated. “The contractor’s approach to transplanting is incredibly cruel … the trees don’t stand a chance of surviving,” said protection activist An Chi-la (安琪拉) who observed the work.

“The trees are being moved to outside the MRT entrance … to increase the survival rate, trees’ limbs must first be trimmed. The root trimming and transplanting have been carried out in accordance with standard procedures,” chief of the engineering section Guo Zhi-wen (郭志文) said. However, the following day, tree protection groups witnessed the contractor moving the trees without first trimming the roots. Zeng cheng-rui (曾檉銳), from the Tree Conservation Society Of Taiwan (台灣愛樹保育協會) severely criticized the contractor as simply pleasing itself, and merely carrying out superficial work; ''The contractor should go and learn how to properly execute tree trimming and transplanting work,” he said.

位於台中市文心路與文心南五路口的南苑公園,因為台中捷運綠線動工,承包商於5月9日將行道樹(黑板樹)以攔腰砍斷的方式先行修剪,5月12日母親節當天斷根移植,但護樹團體人員安琪拉現場監看表示「廠商這種移植方式太粗暴,樹木根本不可能會活」。

捷運工程處長郭志文5月11日表示，施工移植地點是捷運綠線車站的出入口，必須移植行道樹，移植前要修剪旁枝，才能提高存活率，接下來將進行斷根及移植，移植及修剪作業都按照規範進行。不過護樹團體隔天就目睹廠商在沒有任何斷根的狀況下，進行所謂『移植』作業。

台灣愛樹保育協會的曾檉銳痛批承包商只是便宜行事,做做表面功夫而已,應該再教育學習如何修剪移植樹木。
