Media reform groups stage protests over PTS board issue
In the past two years, the fifth board of the Public Television Service (PTS) has been unable to operate. On the 21st January, media reform advocates gathered in front of the public television buildings to protest. National Chung Cheng University associate professor Hu Yuan-hui (胡元輝) said the whole media community must prevent the situation of a media monopoly and that the government and opposing political parties should be denounced for failing to address the issue, continually passing the buck.
In order to convene the fifth Board of Directors and Board of Supervisors of the Public Television Service (PTS) a list of nominees was drawn up and approved by the Ministry of Culture and Executive Yuan. However, the list had insufficient candidates and this has caused further delays to the commencement of the new board of directors. It is felt that the main Taiwanese political parties are avoiding responsibility and acting in a very unprofessional manner.
