Mayor Hau fails to appease 12 protesting families from Wenlin Yuan
It has been 9 months since the Wang family’s two apartments in Shilin District were forcibly demolished as part of the urban renewal project Wenlin Yuan (文林苑). After repeated attempts to ascertain the current situation by households supporting the project ended without results, a meeting with Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin was finally secured for the afternoon of the 9th January. Hsieh Chun-chiao (謝春嬌), director of the self-help association organized by households that support the project, expressed her hope that Taipei City Government would intervene in the situation, helping to coordinate the construction process and delivery of their new homes, as well as giving them a clear timetable for this process. However, after over an hour of talks with Mayor Hau ended with no such timetable, all households were left extremely disappointed. With the aim of expressing their wish to go home, a further protest will be held in front of Taipei City Government at noon on the 12th.
