Overcoming disability – the resplendent Huang Yu-juan
Huang Yu-juan, a third year student from the Department of Special Education, National Chiayi University, was born with no left hand. Although she remembers feeling some inferiority while growing up, she never blamed the world for her affliction and strove to maintain an optimistic mood to meet the challenges in life. As a sophomore, she was president of the school's dance club, infecting everyone with her cheerful and lively attitude. However, even though she was often rushed off her feet with extracurricular activities, Huang Yu-juan never slacked on her schoolwork, and continued to be a responsible and diligent student, endeavoring to do her best in everything; her optimistic attitude to life simply astonished her teachers. “She’s incredibly positive and outgoing, and is the perfect inspirational role model for any student suffering from a disability,” said Associate Professor Lin Yuxia from the Special Education Department at National Chiayi University.
