Bitan drawbridge renovations may stretch as long as six months

New Taipei City Bureau of Urban and Rural Development has announced Bitan Suspension Bridge (碧潭吊橋) in New Taipei City’s (新北市) Sindian District (新店) is expected to close for renovations in February of next year and that the work may take up to six months. Construction of Bitan Suspension Bridge was finished in 1936, but with its gate pillar located on privately owed land, ownership has always been ambiguous. With today’s ‘East Side Regeneration Project’, the suspension bridge’s pillars must be moved within the range of public ownership. “We’re taking advantage of the current regeneration project to move the suspension bridge pillars and resolve the longstanding property-rights issue. We hope that through the transference of property rights the bridge will remains in the seat of government long into the future, ensuring continued access for the public and for subsequent maintenance and management,” said New Taipei City’s Urban and Rural Development Department (新北市城鄉局都更處). Although shuttle busses will be provided during renovations, at peak times people from both sides of the bridge will be forced to add an additional twenty minutes to their traveling time. It is hoped that meetings between government and the people can reach a consensus in order to reduce the impact of the bridge closure.

碧潭吊橋將整修 工期恐長達半年 ( 世新Online )

新北市城鄉發展局表示，新北市新店碧潭吊橋預計於明年二月進行封橋整修，工時可能長達半年。碧潭吊橋在民國25年時興建完成，當時產權劃分並不明確，吊橋墩座位於私人土地上，今東岸都市更新，吊橋墩座就必須遷移至公共範圍。新北市城鄉局都更處表示，「趁著這次（東岸）都更，也把（吊橋墩座）的產權問題一併解決，希望透過權力變換的機制，墩座的產權可以讓市府永久使用，包括後續的維護管理。」雖然施工期間會加開接駁車供民眾搭乘，但未來碧潭兩岸民眾，在尖峰時段要到對岸，還是必須花上20分鐘的車程，期望政府與民眾能夠透過說明會達到共識，以降低封橋的影響。
