Lai Sheng-Kai remains optimistic in face of severe spinal injury
Six years ago, Lai Sheng-Kai graduated from the Dept. of Electronic Engineering at Lan Yang Institute of Technology. However, after a car accident in which he suffered a severe spinal injury, he was left physically disabled and is now strongly reliant on a wheelchair for mobility. The accident came as a huge blow to him and has resulted in massive changes to his life. Fortunately, his mother and father have stood by his side through this time of great upheaval, his mother helping him with physical rehabilitation therapy and his father taking early retirement to lend a helping hand. Lai Sheng-Kai’s own indomitable spirit, coupled with such loving care from his parents has allowed him accept the situation and get used to his new life in a wheelchair. However, with his physical disability, Lai Sheng-Kai has faced continual work rejections and in the words of Lai, “looking for a job was like banging my head against a brick wall”. Fortunately, through the A-Bao Education Foundation, Lai Sheng-Kai finally found a work opening, and by working from home – SOHO – doing typesetting work, he has finally found some light at the end of the tunnel.
