Budding students just “wanna perform”

Established in 2007, RhinoPlay (犀牛劇團) is a youth performing arts troupe composed of high school students and ex-students from the Taoyuan area. Director of RhinoPlay, Wang Zheng-hao (王正豪), is a performing arts teacher at Chi-Ying Senior High School.

Each year, RhinoPlay promotes a drama extravaganza called “Wanna Perform Then Perform Drama Festival (想演就演戲劇節).” The event stages a smorgasbord of performances according to various themes and available funds, ranging from musicals to small-scale dramas. In spite of the fact that in the early days, students had nowhere to rehearse, they never gave up and have continued to follow the troupe all the way since high school. Juggling with being a student and performer at the same time isn’t always easy but the students are clear that study comes first, even if performing is their real passion.

Although RhinoPlay is only a small performing arts group, many students continue to participate even after graduation and RhinoPlay director Wang Zheng-hao – aka Big Fatty – believes that the troupe is doing a great job in “cultivating actors and actresses.” This drama-crazy group of students and ex-students is devoted to developing the performing arts for young people without any demand for personal benefit.

犀牛劇團成立於2007年，致力於青少年表演藝術。團長王正豪是啟英高中表演藝術老師。劇團成員皆由南桃園地區高中生組成，或是這些高中生畢業後回流做演出。

《想演就演戲劇節》為犀牛劇團每年都會推出的戲劇盛會，依照主題不同及經費多寡有不同的演出形式，可能為歌舞劇，或是小型展演。 即便初成立時沒有場地可以排練，但成員仍然不放棄，從高中時代持續跟隨。學生與演員兩種身份不易兼得，讀書是本份，但演戲卻是他們真正想做的事。

犀牛劇團規模雖然小，但仍有許多畢業後的學生回來演出，團長大胖說，這是「養演員」。這群對戲劇懷抱熱情的人，將持續不求回報地為青少年表演藝術奉獻。
