Established four years ago, Fu Jen Catholic University’s Wenai Volunteer Group provides weekly afterschool tutoring to students in Hanxi Village, Datong Township, Yilan. Hanxi Village includes the four Atayal regions of Hanxi (寒溪), Sifanlin (四方林), Huaxing (華興), and Xinguang (新光), where many of the children are raised by grandparents and miss out on having someone to help with their studies. With the hope of addressing the educational inequality of children living in rural areas, the volunteers accompany the children studying and raise various leisure activities.
Assistant professor, Zeng Sheng-yi (曾勝益), drives students from Fu Jen Catholic University to Yilan each Wednesday and Saturday. He first arrived in Hanxi Village one day after losing his way and was shocked to see the disparity of educational standards between Hanxi and metropolitan areas. Few students from Hanxi graduate from high school and many students, even those in junior high, drop out of school to work. Zeng Sheng-yi hopes that by taking volunteer students from university to the village the situation will gradually improve. He has also cooperated with the Rotary Club to renovate old houses in Sifanglin and Huaxing and establish study rooms, thereby improving the study atmosphere for local children.

文愛志工 偏鄉課輔關懷弱勢
輔仁大學文愛志工隊成立四年，每週在宜蘭縣大同鄉寒溪村為學童做課後輔導。寒溪村包含寒溪、四方林、華興、新光四個區域，居民屬於泰雅族部落，當地多為隔代教養，小孩在閱讀、陪伴上缺乏關懷。志工陪伴孩子閱讀、舉辦休閒活動，希望能補足課業上的城鄉差距。
發起課輔活動的輔大中文系副教授曾勝益表示，每週三、六他開車帶輔大學生往返宜蘭，當初找到寒溪村是不小心走錯路才發現的，他看到這個部落與城鄉課業差距太大，在這裡的青少年很少高中畢業，有些甚至是國中就中輟去打工，他想透過課輔慢慢地扭轉情勢，因此才帶著學生來寒溪村。曾勝益還與扶輪社合作，在四方林、華興將舊房子翻新，各成立一間閱讀室，希望能藉此提升讀書風氣。
